1960s Danish Golden Aluminium Pendant Model P376 by Kastholm and Fabricius

About the Item

The top model P376 hanging space age pendant light was designed in 1964 by Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius and manufactured by Nordisk Solar Compagni. The pendant fixture features five ring-shaped brushed golden-aluminum shades which decrease in size below the larger outer shade. The inner shades curve as they get closer to the centre which allows the light to illuminate each golden shade beautifully and to ensure a focussed light and hides the direct light of the bulb. The bulb holder and lightbulb are contained within a cylinder at the top. The original brass ceiling cup which hides the wiring when it's fixed to the ceiling is still present This golden version has quite a number of corrosion spots specifically on the surface of the outer shade which I have featured in the images. The underside has some areas of corrosion but minimal scratches but no bends or dents. The metal shade holders are very rusty but barely visible because they sit within the shade. Despite this wear it still looks amazing and I have reflected these issues in the price. It usually retails well over £1000.00. A single E27 Edison screw-in lightbulb is required. Rewired and in full working order. Dimensions: Height of the shade only: 23cm Adjustable overall height: Diameter: 55cm From Walter Knoll: Preben Fabricius (1931-1984) trained as a carpenter in Copenhagen, before studying interior design under Finn Juhl, where he met the blacksmith Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007). In 1961 Fabricius and Kastholm co-founded a studio, from which a number of furniture design classics later emerged. Their intention was to create furniture with a clear aesthetic form. Their ultimate goal was timelessness. The Danish interior designers dedicated themselves to the optimization of form, material, and ergonomics, and in doing so, followed the functional-aesthetic tradition of Scandinavian design. The Bauhaus also shaped their approach. In the late 1960s Fabricius and Kastholm succeeded in designing one of the icons of design history, the FK. The bucket seat stands for classic design, as well as being a beacon of modernity and shining example of minimalism. In 1969, the chair was the first recipient of the Federal Prize for “Good Form” in Germany.
